All lay before them

Illusion's staircase to climb

Made it halfway

Before looking down

Temptation beckoned

Offered its crown

She succumbed

Tired of responsibility

Pushed aside

Thoughts of loyalty

Just another couple

Since time began

Blinded by love

Its life long plan

Canny reality 

Always one step ahead

Ended romantic dreams

Pronounced them dead
