Older, But Not Over by Ciara M. Blecka

 Older, But Not Over

My grandmother, she has grown older these days

wisened and paler in many ways

But her spirit is strong and she speaks clearly

for she does love her family so dearly

she may be wrinkled, but not wasted

all of life’s pleasures she’s tasted

she always sang us to sleep

and lent and ear when we needed to chat

she may be growing gray

and her memory starting to fray

but her wisdom grows yearly

and she keeps a scrapbook where she’s cut and pasted

all of the memories she wants to keep

forever close to her heart

for nothing could ever keep us apart

she still has far too much life to live

and people’s ignorance she always forgives

she just smiles sincerely

and says, “Come What May”

My grandmother will always be a child who just likes to play
