Moments by C.R. Daugherty

Moments

Oh so errant, the cavalier to steal her heart,
Crossing boundaries of mountain and meadow,
From youth to quickly depart…

Oh so lovely, the maiden fair to seal away,
Hoping her notions of boundless oceans
Never be stolen away.

Oh so stolid, the suitor delivered in black,
Bringing diamonds and gold to lull her and woo,
Awaiting commodious back.

Oh so comely, beloved attired in white,
Wanting for something anew be the blessing,
A dream of a goddess in light.

Oh so lonely, travail for to dine of the vine,
Their gaze being stolen by gypsies and gin,
A slope so steep and alpine.

Oh so shaken, by thundering sheets of rapture,
Their love a procession of caregiving, pain,
And one binding spirit to capture.

Oh so homely, the birthing of newfound glory,
A babe in their arms, to protect from all harm,
A chapter, a shift of the story.

Oh so taken, by careless passage of time,
To rear and wean and raise a human child,
To hope to hear their own’s wedding chime.

Oh so holy, the timeless carriage progression,
The tears and terror, successes and error,
Living for heir of succession.

Oh so enrapt, at the dinner table,
For holiday season, evening card games,
And all of the love here be able.

Oh so jovially, so empty the nest,
Renewed be the vows of youthfulness now,
Yet nary the moment of rest.

Oh so corrupt, machinations of life,
For deceive and retrieve and to find a reprieve
Of the struggle of madrigal wife.

Oh so wondrous, as the children return,
Adventures with friends, including parentis,
Everyone learning to learn.

Oh so guessing, what come the next penchant,
Will the progeny grow up to be as the parent,
And even adopt their own pennant!

Oh so ponderous, as the struggle proceed
Father to son, cradle to grave, mother to life,
The unexpected intercede.

Oh so blessing, through the paramount anguish,
The cosmos a gift as the heavens uplift,
We hoping it never extinguish
.
