Write On by C. R. Daugherty

Write on?

When all the world has fallen asleep,
And you feel all alone,
Would you desire to beseech
A poem for to call your own?

When static noise of whirring cars
Pass by the window swift,
Is this the time you have in mind
To exercise poetic gift?

When in the coffee shop come morn,
Your java by your side,
Is this your time for you to ponder
Which new verses you will rhyme?

The witching hour, afternoon,
Dawn, dusk, and evening tea –
Could not all these be right on time –
A time for golden prosody?

In winter time, would snow descending,
Manna unto Earth,
Provide you with a lambent rhyme
To warm your comely chimney hearth?

And when the beach, awash with waves
Caressing glittered shores,
Careens in through your open heart,
Would you peck on forevermore?
