Alta Weiss by Michael Ceraolo
I loved playing baseball and was good at it;
in a different time I might have tried to play professionally
In my time I used it as a means to an end:
playing semi-pro ball to earn enough money
to put myself through medical school,
where I was the only woman in my graduating class
I had my parents' support in both endeavors:
dad backed the team I played for and built
a place for me to practice in the winter
And I did get to pitch one of my games
in a major-league park:
League Park in nearby Cleveland
